Funeral Arrangements – Interments & arrangements must be completed by the family’s funeral director. Exceptions can be made for interring cremated remains, which may be arranged by family with the cemetery. Arrangements for all interments must be made at least 36 hours before burial. Monday interments must be arranged by Friday before noon. Proof of ownership (Northport Rural Cemetery deed) should be provided. If not available, a lost deed affidavit must be signed by next of kin. Permanent Maintenance – 15% of the purchase price of graves in Northport Rural Cemetery is put in a permanent maintenance fund, to be used solely for the purpose of maintaining and preserving the cemetery grounds as required by Cemetery Law of the State of New York. We provide a spring clean-up, grass cutting & weed whacking during the season, a fall clean-up, and topsoiling when needed. We also remove seasonal grave decorations within a reasonable time frame.

If you feel additional work is needed or perhaps you feel we’ve overlooked a matter concerning your lot, feel free to complete the Maintenance Request form. (click below for form)

Plantings – The Northport Rural Cemetery does not plant graveside. All planting of flowers or plants shall be done by the grave owner and only in the immediate vicinity of the headstone (within 12 inches in front and 6 inches on the sides). Maintenance shall be the responsibility of the grave owner. Trees, shrubs or bushes of any kind must be approved by the Grounds Committee and will be removed if interfering with other graves and/or grave accessibility for burials. This maintenance policy is enforced to ensure the rights of all lot owners and to help minimize Cemetery expenses.

Monument Power Washing – Power washing is available to remove moss and/or algae accumulation. Power washing can remove years of accumulated dirt and grime that can dull and blemish the appearance of a headstone. Contact the Cemetery to arrange a "spring" cleaning.
